personal info
James began his career in the IT sector in the UK and Australia before retraining as a Civil Engineer to work closer to the delivery of the built environment. Over the past 12 years, he has specialised in BIM and digital construction on major programmes, and now leads the implementation of operational Digital Twins at Kier, one of the UK’s largest contractors delivering end-to-end services across the built environment.
His work sits at the intersection of technology, data and operations, focusing on how smart buildings and digital twins can unlock long-term value, improve performance, and support better decision-making across the asset lifecycle.
James holds a Master’s degree in Smart Buildings and Digital Engineering from UCL, is a steering group member of the Digital Buildings Council, and is a co-author of the Smart Buildings Overlay for the RIBA Plan of Work.
